Overview(top)

Purple Urkel, also known as Urkel, Urkle, Purple Urkle and Purple Erkle. This strain is a clone only medical strain available in California compassion clubs. Probably a pheno on Mendo Purps or The Purps it's a classical med strain. This strain is very tasty and effective for pain.

Strain History(top)

Story: Purple Urkle is thought to be an inbred line dating back to at least 1989, possibly quite a bit earlier. Its origins are thought to be that of a pure Indica, likely coming from Afghanistan or Pakistan. It made its way into the NorCal medical clubs in the mid-90’s and has been going strong ever since, being crossed into a wide variety of strains due to its unmistakable coloration, smell, and overall stability.

The Purple Urkle Strain is a classic medical marijuana strain out of California dating back to the late 1980's.
This plant is a 100% pure indica phenotype.
Purple Urkle cannabis strain is a notorious indica strain, with effects that range from a solid euphoric high, to intense, to overwhelming. From a medical standpoint, Purple Urkle is great for migraines, pain relief, depression, anxiety, nausea and insomnia, among others.
These particular indica phenotypes were grown and trained as a multi-stem plant with 3 to 10 colas per plant. As you can see - this strain exhibits tall branching due to the heavily spaced internodes.
As an outdoor plant or greenhouse plant Purple Urkle- has the potential to become much larger.
Trimming time is slightly below average due to the many large colas and the calyx-to-leaf ratio. The quality of the yield is is outstanding. Big fat buds on every part of the plant. I can't wait to see how big this strain gets during the next round (look for new images SOON!!).

Flowering period of 56 days, that's about 8 weeks.

The yield was decent but not a high as it has been in the past.

Purple Urkle is a pure indica likely originating from Afghanistan or Pakistan.
This strain was first introduced in the early 80's and has since risen in the ranks to become one of the most effective and highly sought after cannabis strains among indica devotees.
“Purple Urkle” is thought to be a phenotype of 'Mendocino Purps', a popular Californian strain.

This is a great indica that I am a big fan of. Purple Urkel (or at least the couple of ounces I have come across so far) consist mostly of smaller nugs that are tightly flowered togther. The Purple Urkel also has a strong but light purple coloring, which is contrasted by the strong orange colored hairs. If you take a look at the picture below you can see that this is really a unique looking strain, the great contrast in colors is something that is rarely seen.
Purple Urkel has an aroma familiar with many other purple strains of medicinal marijuana. Before we get to telling you how popular or wonderful this strain is we would like to just take a moment and drop in a quote from HighTimes:
“Purple Urkel is a clone-only strain that seems to be the rage among medical clubs and cannabis connoisseurs”
-HighTimes
This is a popular sentiment for those in the medical marijuana industry right now, what is even more amazing is that this strain has received such popularity and is also known as a clone strain, meaning there are no seeds available if you choose to grow Purple Urkel… If your looking to grow this amazing strain your going to have to do so from clone, assuming you can find someone who has them, and is willing to part with them.
Because of the popularity the medical dispensaries and delivery services that offer Purple Urkel have (in many cases) taken the steps necessary to ensure this is a strain they do not run out of, and because of this pricing ranges from 40-55 per eighth, and no more than 325 per ounce.
Another great highly recommended strain, if you find it… try it. Then come back and let us know what YOU thought of Purple Urkel.
----------
Purple Urkel has been growing in southern Humboldt County since around 1989. The Mendocino County breeders have renamed this cut many times, calling it Lavender amongst other names. In fact, another breeder "White Trash Redneck", reports growing the Mendocino County cut "Lavender" side by side with the original "Purple Urkel" Humboldt cut, as well as the "Bridgeville Black Afghan", "Nepalese Purple", "Pakistan Purple Kush" and "Tooty Fruity Purpleland". White Trash Redneck states that all those cuts are all the same cut, but renamed.

Purple Urkel is a clone only strain and also reported that the Humboldt Purple cut seems to be an old-school IBL (inbred line), making it ideal for use in breeding projects.

Garberville Purple Kush (a.k.a. Swerve’s Cut) , Mendocino Purple Kush and Kyle Kushman’s Purple Kush are believed to be the same cut. Although Weed Yard has Purple Urkel listed as Northen Lights crossed with a Purple Indica, many cannaseurs believe the Purple Urkel is Mendo Purps crossed with the Killer Queen (i.e. G-13 x Cinderella 99), same as the God's Gift strain.
