Canadian Bio-Pharmaceutical Company Seeks to Develop Kid Friendly Cannabis Strains

As the understanding and acceptance of medical marijuana continues to grow across the country, one segment of the populace has been prohibited from medicating with the plants cannabinoids – kids. However thanks to a Canadian bio-pharmaceutical company, that may be about to change. MediJean just announced their intention to create kid friendly strains of medical marijuana, for the specific purpose of helping chronically ill children overcome their debilitating ailments. The Canadian company hopes to develop cannabis strains minus certain compounds with the specific intention of minimizing unnecessary pain and suffering, as well as minimizing the many behavioral conditions which impact these children.

“There are many examples of medical marijuana helping to treat ailments in children and young adults,” said Anton Mattadeen, chief strategy officer at MediJean.  “Last month, I spoke at the Brain Injury Association of Canada conference. At the event, I met an amazing young man who was suffering from severe neuropathic pain caused by a brain injury. He told me the only thing that alleviated his condition without side effects was a certain strain of cannabis, which he has difficulty obtaining on a regular basis. We’re committed to working with him and his doctor, to fix that problem and get him the medicine he needs.”

Understanding that medical marijuana is a touchy subject for many, and not one taken lightly by either parents or physicians. MediJean realizes their role in the big picture; “We are here to work with parents, patients and doctors to provide a solution that is safe, quality-assured and designed to provide the relief and therapeutic value the child or young adult needs,” said Mattadeen. “Diseases and ailments don’t discriminate because of age; decisions should be focused on ensuring a child is receiving the most effective, robust and best treatment possible.”

After searching the known cannabis meccas of the world, as part of MediJeans extensive research and development program, the Canadian company hopes to select up to 20 strains of medicinal cannabis which will be beneficial for both young adults and kids alike. The specific strains will be genetically geared towards the reduction and elimination of marijuana’s main active ingredient – Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC); “Each strain will be designed to reduce or eliminate the psychoactive effects of THC, through the application of an elevated terpene structure, coupled with balanced levels of Cannabidiol (CBD) and THC.”

As recently reported in US news, the known cannabinoid acids in marijuana have been scientifically proven to possess anti-proliferative, anti-anxiety, anti-spasmodic, anti-psychotic, and anti-nausea properties. In fact, the beneficial cannabinoids which have been proven to inhibit the development of malignant cancer cells, was acknowledged in the early 70s, and then later patented by our own federal government– which still maintains marijuana has no medicinal value within the Controlled Substance Act.
