Today I'll be showing you how to make cannabis-infused coconut oil. Coconut oil is a great, healthful alternative for infusing cannabis. It's known to promote weight loss, boost the immune system, regulate metabolism, and aid digestion. As a topical, coconut oil is excellent for keeping skin moisturized and hair glossy and strong. The benefits are seemingly endless!

Before we start, we'll just have to collect a few ingredients and tools:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • ¼ ounces (7 grams) cannabis, decarboxylated

Materials:

  • Cheesecloth
  • Mason jar or other sealable airtight container
  • Rubber band

Step 1: Decarb

Similar to our Ghee recipe, we're going to want to decarboxylate our cannabis. Decarboxylation is the process by the psychoactive properties of cannabis are released. Raw cannabis contains THCA, a non-intoxicating compound that cannot cross the blood-brain barrier. With the application of heat, THCA breaks down and releases THC, the intoxicating cannabinoid.

  • Start the decarb process by preheating the oven to 245 degrees Fahrenheit, or 118 degrees Celsius.
  • While your oven heats up, begin to break up the cannabis flowers or buds into smaller pieces with your hands or a grinder.
  • Place the broken up cannabis pieces evenly on a baking sheet with a rim to prevent pieces from falling.
  • Place the baking sheet in the oven for 45 minutes, flipping every 10 minutes to evenly toast the cannabis.

Step 2: Slow Cook

Set your slow cooker to low heat and add your coconut oil. Once the coconut oil has completely melted, slowly add the decarbed cannabis.

Stir until all the cannabis is incorporated into the coconut oil.

For best results allow the mixture to steep for 3 to 4 hours on low heat.

Step 3: Strain

One your cannabis is fully steeped, turn off the heat. Wait until the oil has cooled slightly before handling. The oil will be very hot! Line your mason jar (or some other airtight container) with cheesecloth and secure it with a rubber band.

Slowly pour the coconut oil mixture into your airtight container. Allow it to strain and cool for a few minutes. After it's cooled, take a spoon and squeeze out the remaining bits of coconut oil still trapped in the cheesecloth. Once you've squeezed every bit, secure the lid and store in the refrigerator until it's ready to use.

Step 4: Enjoy

What do you know? You're all done, and you have a jar full of healthful, nutritious coconut oil infused with cannabis. Whether you're planning to use it for edibles to promote weight loss and boost your immune system, or for topicals to keep your skin moisturized or strengthen your hair, coconut oil proves to be one of the most versatile and useful ingredients in healthy-conscious and cannabis-adoring communities!
