Chelsea Clinton Implies Marijuana Can Kill You

The former and possible future first daughter of the United States acknowledges that marijuana has medical value, but she also seems to believe that cannabis use can lead to death.

“Anecdotally we have lots of evidence in…epilepsy but also in autism, in stimulating appetite for people who are on intensive chemotherapy regimens, for people who have non-epilepsy seizure disorders and challenges,” Chelsea Clinton said on Saturday.

“But we also have anecdotal evidence now from Colorado where some of the people who were taking marijuana for those purposes, the coroner believes, after they died, there was drug interactions with other things they were taking.”

Clinton, the daughter of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, was answering a question about her mother’s position on marijuana rescheduling during an appearance before a group of students at Youngstown State University in Ohio.

The Clinton campaign did not respond to Marijuana.com’s request for clarification about what the candidate’s daughter was referring to in implying that marijuana use has been tied to deaths apparently caused by its interaction with other drugs.

Legalization opponents have attempted to blame a handful of deaths in Colorado on cannabis edibles, but in those cases — one in which a college student visiting the state from Wyoming leapt off a balcony and one in which a man shot his wife to death — no other drugs were involved, so there are no “interactions” to speak of. And in the latter case, the suspect did not die so there was no coroner examination of him.

Elsewhere in the weekend remarks, Clinton reiterated her mother’s pledge to respect the right of states to implement their own marijuana laws without federal interference.

“She supports states making whatever choices they think are right vis–à–vis medical or recreational marijuana use,” she said.

But while candidate Clinton has said she is “100 percent in favor of medical uses for marijuana,” Chelsea implied that she wants cannabis to go through the Food and Drug Administration approval process, which she called the “gold standard for the world” even though the agency has approved a number of drugs that later proved to be very dangerous.

“We just need so much more data than we have so that people who might benefit have the chance to benefit, people who might be in danger are protected,” she said. “So absolutely my mom strongly supports the need for more rigorous study and then subjecting it, as we do kind of everything else that might have a medicinal purpose, to FDA approval, scrutiny and ultimately regulation.”

Her mother has promised that if elected she will reclassify marijuana to Schedule II from its current status under Schedule I, the most restrictive category.

Last month, the Drug Enforcement Administration, acting on a recommendation from FDA, denied long-pending petitions to reschedule cannabis.

Clinton and Republican opponent Donald Trump face off in the first of three scheduled presidential debates Monday night.

It has been suggested that Clinton’s struggling outreach to millennial voters could be strengthened by endorsing marijuana legalization. Young people overwhelmingly support ending cannabis prohibition, and polls show that a sizable chunk are now supporting Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson and the Green Party’s Jill Stein, both of whom have made marijuana law reform centerpieces of their campaigns.

    • we should ask trump what he thinks about Ohio have cannabis laws have change and now we have over 50 percent of states were it is law should it be the law for all states cannabis use

      • Trump has stated he supports State’s Rights on this issue.

There’s a video (which I think was posted @ Marijuana.com) where he was being interviewed in Colorado when he asserted this position.

      • He was asked about it by Bill O’Reilly. He was not clear at all as O’Reilly seemed negative about cannabis for recreation and talked about it being smuggled from one state to another and how that had to stop. Trump said yes it has to stop but also said he has seen people helped by it medically and it has to be looked into. This is not an exact quote.

  1. She is as corrupt as her parents. She is clueless about the medical benefits and is quoting some random gossip from weed haters. Maybe if her hedge fund husband was invested in cannabis she would be singing a different tune. As Ralph and pointed out that the threshold of more than half of the states have made some change in cannabis laws that it should cause congress to take positive action for patient access nationally.

  2. I really don’t understand why they continually say we need to do research to find out the benefits or harm of cannabis use. It’s as if they are saying no research has ever been done or isn’t being conducted now?!! There are numerous countries that have been doing the research on the affects of cannabis for decades and most of them have forwarded their findings to our government! So when I hear the two leading candidates for president say we need to do more research, it sounds like they are saying the USA is the only country on this earth that has the ability to do the propper research when it comes to cannabis????? W.T.F.?? To me its just a ploy to get people to vote for them and after in office they will forget all about rescheduling or the ” much needed research ” that they say needs to be done! I’m telling ya’ll that Gary Johnson is looking really more and more promising! Especially after reading what both candidates have to say about their stance on cannabis legalization and information they have supposedly gathered about cannabis and how things are going in Colorado. Oh well, I guess we’ll know on November 8th on how things will pan out!

    • “So when I hear the two leading candidates for president say we need to do more research, it sounds like they are saying the USA is the only country on this earth that has the ability to do the propper research . . . ”

That’s just it. The Right thinks anything that doesn’t originate in the USA is suspect. That is, everything except the products whose manufacture has been “off-shored” for their profit and our loss.

They go through life with blinders on, so they don’t have to look at reality. And the Clintons are Right wing. Just not the “off the deep end insane” Right wing like the Tea Party and Trump are.

  3. Trump is for States rights on pot use. Hillary just wants to win so she will say one thing and do another as the Clinton’s are so famous of doing. No taxed? Bill raised them high. I wouldn’t throw my vote to Johnson. He’s not winning at anything. Trump is against all the lies of lifetime politicians. Time to boot them to the curb. Along with the FDA.

  4. Explain to me how the USofA is a free country again? America, land of the fee, home to the tax slave.
Americans are nothing more than proletarians being led by fascism and the corrupt government it created.

  5. So now we know that if her mother becomes president, marijuana will not be legalized federally. The reason Chelsea is saying this is because her mother profits off of Big Pharma, and legalizing marijuana would hurt her profits. She is as corrupt as her parents

  6. The booze companies are the biggest lobbyists against legal cannabis. You would think there would be more common sense considering all the deaths every year because of booze versus deaths as a result of cannibus (zero). Anti-pot people (alcoholics) say that legal pot leads to an increase in crime. Funny, I was in Amsterdam this year and crime was non-existent. I only saw one or two cops during my entire stay there. Ah, that pot stuff is for losers anyway ::sips beer::.

    • Actually, the largest dollar lobbyists against legalizing cannabis are the prison guards union and the wood pulp paper producers.
The “For Profit” prisons are up there too. The prisons and guards would lose too many “profitable” prisoners if cannabis were legal, and wood pulp paper mills cannot compete against cannabis pulp paper mills.
Then there is also textile lobbyists, pharmaceutical, petrochemical (plastics, etc.) and the cosmetics industry lobbyists. Yes, the liquor conglomerates are in there too.
Sadly, while they use the “excuse” that cannabis has no safe or effective use, this is all about profit. This is all about cannabis can do it cheaper, cleaner and better. I am sure Chelsea’s position is a combination of the stupidity she inherited from her father, and the paid position the lobbyists gave her.

  7. Chelsea has not the slightest idea of what she talking about and is only repeating what she is told. Marijuana happens to be very helpful for so many, even for those with mussel problems, so many others.

  8. Yeah, here (Colorado) they’re doing everything they can to bust people for marijuana-related DUI. The laws of this state are draconian af and in the 20 odd years I’ve lived here it’s only gotten worse. It was the people’s decision to legalize it, but state and local governments do EVERYTHING they can to fuck you for anything weed-based. This state is run by complete idiots who are in big pharmas pocketbooks. Hell, the people almost revolted because they outlawed COLLECTING YOUR OWN WATER. Think about that. It was illegal to collect rainwater. If they can bust you for anything here they will…The cops are rude assholes with a horrible brutality record. Clinton’s just trying to be her mom, who is basically Nixon. Fuck the Clintons.

  9. If she’s an example of what happens to humans who don’t so imbibe by using cannabis, I think I’ll take my chances and maybe even increase my own cannabis consumption to where there’s no threat of me ever winding up being like her…
