Extensive Survey Finds Pot Users Are More Successful and Content

A recent survey by BDS Analytics is debunking the myth that cannabis users are lazy and unmotivated. In fact, the research shows that people who enjoy marijuana are among the most satisfied and successful people in society.

In what is being touted as the most comprehensive and detailed look at cannabis consumers ever conducted, the study found that cannabis consumers have an overall healthier well-being when compared to those who abstain. The survey covered a number of mental, social, and financial aspects of people living in California and Colorado, two states that have legalized adult-use cannabis.

The subjects of the study were classified into one of three groups:

  • Consumers (people who consume cannabis)
  • Acceptors (people who do not consume cannabis but might consider it)
  • Rejecters (people who do not consume cannabis and would not consider it)

For starters, pot consumers living in California, on average, have a household income of $93,800. That average household income drops to $73,900 for rejecters of cannabis.

The notion that those who toke up are uneducated was also found to be drastically misguided. The survey reports that 20 percent of Californian consumers hold master’s degrees, compared to 12 percent among rejectors.

In terms of personality and social interaction, the survey found that 36 percent of cannabis consumers describe themselves as very social people, compared to 28 percent of rejecters.

Other findings from this extensive study show that marijuana users enjoy the outdoors, volunteer their time to help others, and are more likely to be parents of young children.

“Cannabis consumers are far removed from the caricatures historically used to describe them,” said Linda Gilbert, head of the consumer research division at BDS Analytics. “In fact, positive lifestyle indicators like volunteering, socializing, satisfaction with life and enjoyment of exercise and the outdoors are highest among cannabis consumers, at least in Colorado and California.”

For those of us who do enjoy cannabis, these numbers come as no surprise.

  1. This is such a huge lie. I’m tired of all these idiots who think like this guy. If this article was true than why are pot heads usually the poor ones who bring trouble around? They rather get stoned, than go to school or work so how does that make them successful? They are also brain impaired so they don’t think straight.

    • Although there ARE people like you’ve described, Robbie, what makes you think that potheads are USUALLY like this? What percentage is “usually” even? Before replying to an analytical report, think for a second… are you being analytical as well? Or are you just throwing blanket statements to cover your biases?

Robbie you are talking about a few 15 year olds you know. The article is correct. Factually correct. Most adults who smoke are successful, healthy, and happy. That’s the truth.

  2. Robbie, what you presented was a stereotype. Should we have the same thought process when it comes to obese persons? As with everything consumed, it should always be done in moderation. Instead of criticizing the people you speak of, sounds like they should more so be educated on how to use it…or you may just be exaggerating and need to educate yourself. It may just be the latter ((shrugs)). Legalization is happening Robbie. Jump in the boat or sink. Your choice buddy. ????

  3. Well it’s about time someone did a legitimate study that debunks the pasay
& rather “Reefer Madness -esque” idea that everyone who uses are lazy & stupid!. Let’s not forget that people who use cannabis are more open minded and in general nicer people. THANK YOU, John (Glitz).

Poor Robbie!! To me I’m sick of listening to people like you who obviously has no experience with pot. I think you would b surprised at who you might pump
Into at the local dispensaries it may open your eyes as to how many different people that you would never think use cannabis . It’s almost refreshing to see all the different type using weed . Part of being successful is not letting someone control you! So just by using it makes you a bit more happy and free
