Jack Herer Marijuana Strain Review

Strain Overview

The Scoop: Jack Herer is a lofty and inspired hybrid that was first cultivated by one of the resourceful breeders at Sensi Seeds. Perpetuating the notoriety of its deceased hemp-activist namesake, Jack is thought to be a cross between Shiva Skunk, Northern Lights #5, and an enigmatic Haze hybrid. Debatably considered one of the most victorious varieties competing in modern cannabis festivals, Jack Herer has taken home multiple HTCC trophies over its celebrated 23-year lifespan.

The Result: A cerebral pacifier, Jack’s highly-valued CBD content soothes the high-strung mind and harmonizes our hyperactive essence. While Jack, a.k.a. The Emperor of Hemp is no longer with us, his book, “The Emperor Wears No Clothes” continues to be instructive for future generations – much like Jack’s strain.

Strain Profile

The Science: Available at medical marijuana dispensaries around the country, Jack Herer’s total THC content came back at 18.06%, according to a 2016 lab test. Skewed perhaps by an individual cultivator’s skill set, this specific batch of Jack tested relatively low on the terpene profile analysis. Per this test, Jack’s most prominent terpene was Terpinolene, which registered on the high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) test at just 0.29 percent.

Appearance: At full maturation, Jack’s phenotypes are revealed for our viewing pleasure. Primarily a Sativa, Jack’s Northern Lights gene pool shines through like a beacon of hope. Perhaps not as visually impressive as some of today’s high-end boutique strains, Jack’s lime green leaves and a psychotropic layer of medicinal compounds have cultivated a cult-like following among Sativa fans for more than two decades. Covered in pistils and trichomes, these billy club shaped buds should be handled with care.

Consistency: Mildly dense and overtly clingy, Jack’s buds reside firmly on the Sativa side of the genetic spectrum. When properly cultivated and cured, these award-winning flowers take on a distinctive conical shape. The epitome of a motivational smoke, Jack Herer would no doubt be proud his namesake strain maintains its lofty position at marijuana shops around the globe.

Scent: A fiery Sativa with a distinctive sweet side, well-grown Jack provides for a wide range of aromas. Spicy yet tropical, the essence of this strain is truly unleashed when given the slightest squeeze. Tantalizing the olfactory system since the early 90s, Jack’s collective terpene profile set an incredibly high standard for other hybrids to follow.

Taste: Like starting the day with a cup of spicy Chai tea, the first hit stimulates the taste buds and arouses an insightful thought process. Traces of black pepper, tropical fruit rinds, and sweet lime flood the mouth and energize the mind.

Effect: A motivational strain, Jack’s combination of terpenes and cannabinoids enables critical thinking to flourish. Freed from the static noise of the outside world, the mind is energized and now views the world through a creative lens.

Strain Background: An industry secret known only to the cultivators at Sensi Seeds, Jack’s genetic downline has historically been like Fight Club – no one talks about it. Considered a three-way hybrid of Shiva Skunk, Northern Lights #5 (NL5) and Haze, online sources suggest Sensi first cultivated Jack by crossing “a male from their NL5 x SK1 seedline (AKA Shiva Skunk) and backcrossing him to the NL5 female cutting. As Sensi purchased Neville’s breeding plants, they had both the Haze A and C males, so it is likely that they then chose a female NL5 x (NL5xSK1) plant and pollinated it with one of the Haze males to create Jack Herer.”

Medical Uses: A natural medicine of the highest order, Jack Herer’s collective compounds help minimize daily stress and bouts of periodic depression. An outstanding wake and bake strain, Jack also fuels the fatigued mind while relaxing painful joints.

Gone but not forgotten, in the below YouTube video “the Emperor” does what he does best – explain the value of hemp and expose our unique form of American hypocrisy.

  1. I still miss the old days, cannabis was way better back then. Ya I know your saying no they say it’s stronger today. BS!! I have smoked for 45 yrs now, nothing today makes me forget my name after 3-4 bong hits like back in the day. Thai stick, Thai weed, Buddha Sticks, honey oil, Panama Red, Columbia Gold, killer hash, ya those were the days.

    • Yeah…..IF you could get them. Back then, I was very lucky to find and smoke such good weed and Mexican schwag was the norm but I grew up in the Midwest where weed was still seen through the eyes of Reefer Madness and the cops thought weed was more evil than anything on Earth, so they really went crazy trying to bust all us hippies LOL. Now, its no problem at all to find good quality Cannabis and schwag is rare.

      • Acapulco Gold was good too. My old_time favorites were Santa Marta Gold and those big Bhuda Thai sticks. A ship off the Oregon coast was busted. with 17 tons of those big beautiful Bhuda sticks. I never saw it again after that.

For those who are diabetic, it is highly recommended to not drink alcoholic beverages as alcohol turns to sugar in the blood stream. I’m glad that marijuana is finally going mainstream and offering people a better choice than booze.

  3. You got that right, bro. I started smoking in ’68– I recall some seedy Michoacan weed in ’70 that got me so stoned I got lost on my own block, and the buzz lasted for 6 hours. And black hash–I’d melt a gram in a cup of hot coffee–talk about wake ‘n’ bake! I’d be stoned all day.
The perfumy stuff available today is nice, but way, way lighter than the stuff from the old days. And how come there’s no really good imported hash or kif out there anymore? I used to buy 1 oz. blocks of good green hash for $100.
