DEA Thanks Godfather of Prohibition

“Marihuana influences Negroes to look at white people in the eyes, step on white men’s shadows and look at white women twice.” ~ Harry J. Anslinger

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) still venerates Harry J. Anslinger.

In commemoration of Anslinger’s war on the disenfranchised and one of nature’s most important plants, the DEA tweeted a shout-out to America’s first marijuana prohibitionist on #ThrowbackThursday.

Harry J. Anslinger is remembered for many things, most of which are horrific. But old Harry wasn’t just a racist with a penchant for uttering ugly and derogatory slurs against America’s minorities – Anslinger was the first head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (FBN). A prejudicial fearmonger at heart, Anslinger is credited with cultivating America’s war on drugs and rolling out “Marihuana” prohibition in the late 1930s.

“Anslinger helped bring drug law enforcement into the modern age,” claimed the DEA’s tweet.

Anslinger, as the head of the FBN, was driven by angst and revulsion over cultural diversity and America’s cannabis use in the 1930s. An early and ardent crusader for increased drug penalties, Harry is considered the Godfather of prohibition. Credited with criminalizing marijuana via the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, the FBN was later consolidated with The Bureau of Drug Abuse Control to create The Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs –  which was the prototype for our current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

A propagandist obsessed with his anti-marijuana campaign, Anslinger demonized marijuana as an insidious drug and pandered to the racial prejudice of white Americans by fanning the flames of fear over marijuana use in the early 20th century.

Bigoted, intolerant, and obviously biased, Anslinger was responsible for establishing the disastrous course for our nation’s drug policy, and some rather ludicrous statements.

  • There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others.
  • Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.
  • Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.

Nearly 90 years after Harry J. Anslinger’s campaign of prohibition, bigotry, and ignorance took root in the U.S., the DEA saw fit to thank Harry for the purity of his madness.

About Author

Born in Long Beach, raised on the central coast: I surf, dab, burn, and blog – though not necessarily in that order. I'm a husband, a father and a lifelong consumer of connoisseur grade weed. I don't drink alcohol or consume any other "drugs." I consider myself to be living proof that weed is not a gateway drug. If it were, I'd be in some serious trouble. Instead, as a 50-year-old ex-realtor that has been smoking weed for nearly 80% of my life (just did the math) ... I can only say, marijuana is safer than prescription pills or alcohol could ever hope to be for calming what stirs the savage beast.

That son of a bitch hounded Billie Holiday to an early death as much as if not more than the heroin she was addicted to.

It’s interesting to note that all the players in the Nixon administration at one time in their careers were part of drug enforcement. they all used it as a place to start their careers.

Marijuana was the Best Medicine Worldwide for 100’s of Years. Then it was made illegal with Lies (Reefer Madness) to Eradicate the Non Psychoactive Hemp Plant for the Reason of Profits. Marijuana was / is / will always be “The CURE”.

We’re the reason cannabis banned worldwide. Harry Anslinger wasn’t happy with just a national ban. Nope, he had to make it a worldwide thing.
